It's not just the restaurant’s physical location that is important. Barcelona features wine from several regions throughout Spain, including Rias Baixas, located in the Northwest of Spain; Rioja, Spain’s most famous wine-making region; and Ribera del Duero, one of the most renowned wine regions in the world.
Going to Barcelona provides patrons with a lesson in wine as well as an experience in wine. The bartenders and wait staff are all trained in wines and are willing to help patrons choose the perfect glass or bottle to match their meal, or their mood.
For those who are looking to experiment with different varieties, the “flights” are a good way to do that. Flights provide you with three different types of wine that vary from all reds, to all whites, to mixed. Ask you server for recommendations. Note: If you sit at the bar, and it’s not too busy, your bartender—at least the one in Norwalk—will be more than happy to explain the selections to you.
Barcelona offers wines primarily from Spain and the U.S, although there are a smattering of offerings from France, Austria, Italy, Portugal and Germany. The wines also vary in price, from a $28 bottle of Segura Viudas, Brut Reserva, to a $75 bottle of Seleccion, Vina Izadi, 2000, to a $975 bottle of Margaux, Château Margaux, Bordeaux, France 1990 on the restaurant’s 2008 Seasonal Winter Wines list.
In an area of beer, martinis and sake, Barcelona offers the wine connoisseur and the wine novice a place to whet their palates with wines that are hard to find elsewhere.
Barcelona has locations in South Norwalk, Greenwich, Fairfield, West Hartford and New Haven.
