Head down to the Wadsworth Atheneum August 6 for the museum's monthly Phoenix Art After Hours: First Thursdays at the Atheneum. Phoenix Art After Hours provides a stimulating setting for mingling with friends after work. Sip a cocktail, enjoy music and other live performances, attend a gallery talk and see a classic movie or art film.
At the August installment, get your groove on from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Enjoy tantalizing cocktails and explore the art of temporary tattoos. "Bare Your Skin, Bare Your Soul" will screen at 8 p.m. The film tells the true story of a black girl who was born to two white Afrikaner parents in South Africa during Apartheid. 2008. South Africa/UK. 107 min. Not Rated. English and Subtitles. Directed by Anthony Fabian. Separate ticket required.
At 6 p.m., Chet Kempczynski talks about inspiring works at the museum, and then he'll lead a walk to Hartford Public Library’s Artwalk space to introduce his retro:works.
The featured film, "Mama Mia!" (separate ticket required) begins at 8 p.m. outdoors in Gengras Court, weather permitting. Rain location is in the Aetna Theater. Sing-a-long with the story of a bride-to-be who tries to figure out which of three men is her father, told using 1970’s hit songs from the group ABBA.
