Dragon Dogs is an unassuming, laidback hot dog stand on Saybrook Point that's a favorite stop for locals seeking breakfast, lunch or even just a quick and tasty snack. The brainchild of Jack Flaws, who owns American Bistro and Wine Bar on Main Street in Old Saybrook, this seasonal hotspot traditionally stays open from Memorial Day to late October. And they take their hotdogs very, very seriously, from the bun (toasted in fresh butter, so the outside'll be crispy, while the inside stays soft) all the way down to the myriad of condiments that can be piled atop. Available dogs run from beef and pork to turkey and vegan, and can be dressed up in a variety of styles, from the "Bostonian" -- sauteed onions, bacon, mustard -- to the "New Yorker" -- sweet peppar relish, bacon, mustard, sauteed onions, sauerkraut. Dragon Dogs is also home to the "Jack's Original Lobster Dog" ($14), made with fresh lobster that's cooked until tender, shelled, then ground with butter and seasoning, and stuffed into a casing.
