Thanks in large part to its dramatic setting and spectacular view, Sage American Grill & Oyster Bar is something of a local legend. Located on picturesque Water Street, the restaurant is well known to locals, though it seems to have escaped the notice of those trapped in the Yale bubble. Sage is also one of a precious few local restaurants that actually takes advantage of its maritime scenery and aquatic contact. And the setting is about as spectacular as you can get for New Haven: On one side of the restaurant, huge plate-glass windows open onto sweeping vistas of the Long Island Sound while, in another direction, boats clunk around a classic New England marina. Steaks and seafood selections highlight the menu at Sage, while oysters on the half shell, herb-crusted salmon and roast prime rib are particular standouts.
