Okay, first, our server was awesome. The guy was constantly moving. Our food definitely did not wait around to be brought to us. He was friendly and professional. Having worked in the downtown Hartford scene, it really brought me back to see someone cruising around like that. The flow, the concern... It's just a downtown thing. It's nice.
The corn chowder was awesome. I highly recommend it. Bacony, spicy/sweet, chowdery goodness. The cornbread they serve when you get there was real good too, so the corn bread croutons made a nice addition.
The "burnt endz" were alright. I say alright, because they weren't bad, just not as smokey as I want my bbq to be. I wouldn't call them burnt ends.
For entrees, I got the "pig out" and my fiance got the fried chicken. At this point in the meal I started to notice a trend of under salting. I salted everything, tasted it, and salted again. The chicken was crispy fried with a cornmeal coating, unsalted and a little dry, but not horrible. My ribs were... um... I don't think I like spare ribs so we'll just say I wished they were baby backs and a whole lot smokier tasting. The pulled pork tasted outright boiled (faux pas). None of the BBQ had very prominent smoke rings. I wouldn't consider this BBQ really.
The andouille sausage was delightful. Probably the best I've had... better than the stuff I had in New Orleans even.
Overall, I wouldn't avoid this place, but I probably won't go back for the BBQ. I'd also say that if you were going to a show here, you will definitely have a good time. As far as music venues go the grub is superior.
