Yeah, yeah, I know. Who doesn't know about Shady Glen, the dairy bar/diner-style restaurant that opened in 1938? You'd have to have been living in a pantry for the last 58 years not to have heard about the signature cheeseburgers, the fresh berry sundaes and the eclectic repertoire of ice cream offered at this Manchester landmark. Although the menu features sandwiches, hot meals and homemade ice cream, it is the art of its cheeseburger that has made Shady Glen famous in the annals of roadside dining. These tasty beef patties look like they've been "dressed up" with three-corner hats made of cheese. A kitschy painted mural featuring elves and cartoon characters decorates a wall amidst a room full of shiny stainless steel, long communal counters and comfortable booths.
